8.9-mm-thick Samsung Galaxy Fold 7 thinner than the 8.8-mm-thick Honor Magic V5

Samsung has worked hard to make its foldables thinner, and the results are impressive. When folded, the Fold7 is 3.2 millimeters thinner than its predecessor. However, despite all their efforts, Honor announced the 8.8 mm Magic V5 just one week before the launch of the Fold7. However, it has since come to light that Honor was not entirely honest.
One millimeter is one millimeter you might think, but one millimeter is not the other. For example, the 8.8 millimeter thick Honor Magic V5 is seemingly thicker than the 8.9 millimeter thick Samsung Fold 7. That's what @UniverseIce discovered by putting both devices side by side. What's going on here?
Now not everyone has the means to purchase a nearly $2,100 Fold7 AND a Magic V5, but @UniverseIce seems to be in that desirable position. He laid both devices flat on the table, face down so the cameras don't count. Now he puts a bank card on both and what turns out? The card runs down to the "thicker" Galaxy Fold 7.
Not scientific, but telling
UniverseIce is the first to acknowledge that this is not a scientific way to check the thickness of the two phones, and we should add that 0.1 millimeters is also a barely perceptible difference, but it's hard to ignore the fact that the Fold7 is seemingly slightly thinner than the Magic V5 after all. So how exactly did Honor arrive at that 8.8 millimeters?
Honor's website says the following about it; Data comes from the HONOR Lab. 8.8mm refers to the thickness of the Ivory White model in the folded state. The overall thickness does not include the inner and outer screen protective films and the raised part of the camera. ... The actual data may vary depending on configurations, manufacturing processes and measurement methods. Please refer to the actual device
So it is a theoretical thickness and not the actual thickness. And that may very well be where the difference lies. However, the fact that Honor comes out exactly 0.1 millimeter lower than Samsung does not seem to be a coincidence; perhaps Honor wanted to be thinner than the Fold7 at all costs. Until someone put both devices side by side to do a hands-on test and came to a different conclusion.
And so the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 turns out to be the thinnest foldable after all if you have your eye on a booklet foldable. Whatever the numbers say.
