This is why there is no larger battery in the Samsung Fold 7

Yesterday, Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold 7 with a very welcome thin body. But every advantage has its drawback and so the battery capacity has not been improved. Samsung explains why it chose this way.

Anyone looking at the Fold 7 spec list will notice that there is much more information than just battery capacity. Everything has to be thought about, weighed up and knotted about beforehand. And more often than not, it doesn't start at all with what "specs do we put in a phone," no, rather it's "what do we want to achieve?".

Samsung is focusing on "thin" this year, and it succeeded!"

Samsung overwhelmingly chose a thinner design this year. And then everyone else has to go along with that, without sacrificing too much on things like performance and battery life. This is not just any decision by Samsung, they listened to what customers want. And they thought the Fold was too thick. So the team at Samsung went to work resulting in the very nice Fold7.

Not just blinded by numbers

And despite the same 4400 mAh battery size, Samsung once again promises a full day of use. And so it goes almost every year. With changed batteries each time, they promise a day of use. At the end of the day, that is also much more important than the mAh count. What can you do with it instead of focusing on numbers.

Thinner or not; the Fold7's battery still lasts a day

So with software optimizations and more fuel-efficient processors, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 gets through the day again. And although 25W charging is not very fast, 15 minutes on the charger is usually long enough to get another couple of hours.

What if!

Still, we dream about how long the Fold7 could have gone on on one charge if Samsung had opted for a Silicon-carbon battery rather than a Li-ion. These SiC batteries are thinner and have a higher capacity. But Samsung is rightly cautious about phone batteries and is happy to leave the pioneering to the rest. Maybe next year.
