Arsenal sign experienced midfielder Norgaard

Arsenal have moved to replace Jorginho and Thomas Partey by snapping up midfielder Christian Norgaard from Brentford.

The 31-year-old, who has cost a reported initial £10million, will add experience to the Gunners’ midfield after both Jorginho and Partey were allowed to leave the Emirates after their contracts expired at the end of last season.

Norgaard made 196 appearances for Brentford after joining from Fiorentina in 2019, including 122 in the Premier League as the Bees established themselves in the top flight.

He has also represented Denmark on 35 occasions.

Norgaard excited to play in the Champions League

Norgaard is relishing his move across London and cannot wait to play in the Champions League.

He told the club’s official website: “You can get almost emotional because maybe it was a dream that I’ve given a little bit up on coming towards the later stage in my career.

“I’ve just turned 31 and had signed a new deal with Brentford. Of course, there’s always a little chance that a miracle could happen with Brentford, but it was probably unrealistic to play Champions League with them.

“Now, I get to hear the anthem and be a part of a Champions League campaign. It’s a childhood dream and something I didn’t think would be possible. So it’s something I’m really, really happy about.”
