Is your Galaxy Watch 4 suffering from Red Screen of Death? Here's what you can do

Many Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 users are reporting problems with their smartwatches. The display gradually turns red and becomes unresponsive. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of owners experiencing this issue. What can be done?

The answer is short and unsatisfactory; unfortunately, there is little you can do about it. The Galaxy Watch 4 came out in 2021 and is no longer under warranty. It's unclear why multiple complaints are appearing at the same time, although some have experienced the issue since the beginning. They were "lucky" because their copy was replaced under warranty.

The red screen, also called Red Screen of Death, is extremely annoying should you suffer from it. Repair is in many cases more expensive than a new model. And should you not have synchronized data with your smartphone, you will also lose your data. Our advice to Watch 4 owners who have not yet experienced this problem is to set up synchronization while you still can.

Cause unclear

The cause of the problem is unknown. There are few moving parts on the watch, so wear and tear is not a likely cause. Users whose watches broke reported seeing a red glow across the screen at first before the entire screen turned red or orange.

But a new Galaxy Watch after all?

Repair is always an option although given the economic value of the watch, that is not immediately the wisest thing to do. Samsung will be happy to sell you a Galaxy Watch 7, but you can also be patient and wait for the Watch 8 expected in July.
