Samsung's tri-fold phone is closer than you think

For some time now, there has been talk of a Samsung foldable that you can fold not once, but twice. Ironically, we call this a tri-fold, and it may be coming sooner than you think.

So far, Samsung has two types of foldables on offer. One that you fold vertically, the Flip, and one that you unfold like a book; the Fold. But anyone who has ever studied origami knows that there are more ways to fold a piece of paper. We may see a third possibility as early as July.

for years.

Samsung will announce the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7 at the July 9 presentation, and we may get to see this still mysterious device for the first time at the end of the presentation. Besides how this device looks, we are also curious about its name. Earlier, the name G Fold was going around, but we are not sure.

In case Samsung still needs some inspiration, here are a few additional suggestions:

  • Galaxy Z Flexi
  • Galaxy Z Tripple
  • Galaxy Z Unfold

A third category could give Samsung another edge in the foldable market. After Samsung introduced the foldable market in 2019, it was overtaken left and right in recent years by other brands introducing thinner and sometimes new designs. Samsung has been trying to make up for that lost ground over the past year with models such as the Galaxy Fold Special Edition and the 7th generation Flip/Fold.

So we'll keep an eye out for the first images and information during the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9. Then we will hear whether the device folds inward twice, like the Flex G concept, or a combination of inside and outside like the Flex S. The latter solution corresponds to the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate

Samsung's tri-fold is expected to hit the market a few months later, possibly in the fall. A source on Weibo thinks October. That still sounds far away but it seems like the ideal gift for under the Christmas tree.
