Chicago will name its left tackle soon
Head coach Ben Johnson said that he is planning to name the team’s starting left tackle ahead of the Bears’ first preseason game scheduled for August 10th, according to NFL.com. Braxton Jones made 12 starts at left tackle last year for Chicago. The Bears also used a second-round pick on offensive tackle Ozzy Trapilo during the 2025 NFL Draft after trading for Joe Thuney.
Chargers reveal who is in and out for Thursday
Starting quarterback Justin Herbert will sit out of the Hall of Fame Game, meaning Trey Lance will be Los Angeles’ starter on Thursday night. Lance will likely play the entire first half and some of the third quarter.
Rookie running back and first-round draft pick Omarion Hampton will play in the game. Wide receivers Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston will not be playing Thursday night. Meanwhile, Zion Johnson will be the team’s starting center.
The Lions won’t have their All-Pro safety for the HOF Game
First-Team All-Pro safety Kerby Joseph, who was also the 2024 league-leader in interceptions, will not be playing in Detroit’s preseason game on Thursday due to “knee irritation,” which has caused him to miss the last few days of practice, head coach Dan Campbell said. Joseph is expected to be back at practice on Saturday.
Gang Green finds a kicker
On the same day that they waived kicker Caden Davis, the New York Jets announced they signed place kicker Nick Folk, who had previously played for Gang Green from 2010 to 2016. Folk spent the last two years with the Tennessee Titans, where he led the league in field goal percentage both seasons.
The Colts extend Bernhard Raimann
The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to a four-year, $100 million contract extension with starting left tackle Bernhard Rainmann, according to NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo. The Colts confirmed the extension earlier today, but did not announce the length or financial terms of the deal.
“Bernhard has worked extremely hard, and this contract extension is a testament to his character, dedication, and persistence,” said general manager Chris Ballard in a statement. “He exemplifies each of our team’s four pillars and is a leader in our locker room. I’m excited for him and his family on this well-deserved contract extension.”
Notable injuries and injury updates
Baltimore Ravens
- Tight end Isaiah Likely rolled his ankle during practice and will undergo an MRI tomorrow. John Harbaugh said Likely will miss a few weeks.
- Cornerback Jaire Alexander returned to practice today after dealing with a knee injury yesterday.
Buffalo Bills
- Cornerback and first-round draft pick Maxwell Hairston left practice early to get his knee checked out.
Detroit Lions
- Cornerback Terrion Arnold, who had to leave a practice last week because of an injury, left today’s training camp session to be evaluated for a hamstring issue.
Kansas City Chiefs
- Wide receivers Hollywood Brown (ankle) and Skyy Moore (hamstring) left today’s practice early due to injuries.
Los Angeles Chargers
- Wide receiver Ladd McConkey skipped practice today as he deals with what head coach Jim Harbaugh describes as a minor injury.
Miami Dolphins
- Safety Ashtyn Davis exited practice early with a lower leg injury. He later returned with crutches and a walking boot.
New England Patriots
- Cornerback Christian Gonzalez was held out of practice with a leg injury.
New York Giants
- Even though he left practice early to have his shoulder examined, wide receiver Malik Nabers appears to be okay.
Philadelphia Eagles
- Wide receiver DeVonta Smith, linebacker Zack Baun, linebacker Nolan Smith, and safety Andrew Mukuba all missed practice today due to injuries.
- Center Cam Jurgens and linebacker Jihaad Campbell were limited in practice with injuries.
San Francisco 49ers
- First-round draft pick Mykell Williams sat out of today’s practice with a minor ankle issue.
