BlackBerry Passport gets successor in the form of Unihertz Titan 2

For those who also long for the good old BlackBerry days, Unihertz has good news. It is launching the Titan 2 via a Kickstarter in June. The angular passport-sized device features a full keyboard and runs Android.

The difference between the Titan 2 and the BlackBerry Passport is that the former gets an extra row of function keys, otherwise the devices look similar. This is not the first time Unihertz has released BlackBerry-like phones, for this it previously used Kickstarter to pay for development.

Phones with keyboards fell out of favor after the iPhone hit the market in 2007. And those who didn't buy an iPhone did buy a touchscreen Android smartphone. The demise of BlackBerry was initiated after which things went downhill fast. The Canadian company tried to regain market share with touchphones but its heyday would never return. As of 2013, the company itself no longer made phones.

Waiting for specifications

Unihertz jumped into the gap left by BlackBerry with compact phones with physical keyboards. With the Titan 2 launched on Kickstarter in June, Unihertz is once again paying respect to BlackBerry's legacy. We hear then what specifications and price tag the Unihertz Titan 2 will come with.

We already dare to predict that the device will not be a great success. Touchscreens have become so good and offer more space for content than phones with a keyboard. That is not to say that some people will look forward to the Titan 2 with physical buttons. The feeling that pressing a real button gives can't be replicated well with a touchscreen.
