Manchester United agree £74m transfer for striker Sesko – report

Manchester United look set to beat Newcastle to signing Benjamin Sesko after reportedly agreeing a £74 million deal for the Leipzig striker.
Both clubs have been keen to sign the 6ft 5in 22-year-old, with United earning permission to conduct a medical for a guaranteed transfer fee of £66m plus potential add-ons, according to The Athletic.
Sesko, who scored 21 goals in all competitions last season, could join £62.5m signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who joined from Brentford for £71m, as part of a new-look United attack.
Benjamin Sesko: Why do Man United want striker?
Slovenia international Sesko joined Leipzig from Salzburg in 2023, scoring 39 goals and eight assists in 87 appearances since then.
Last year, he signed a contract extension until 2029. While the deal does not include a formal release clause, it is widely believed there is a gentleman’s agreement that Leipzig would not block a move for the right offer.
Sesko’s previous contract had contained a €65m (around £56m) release clause.
Sesko made his senior international debut a day after turning 18 and has gone on to earn 41 caps, scoring 16 goals and playing at Euro 2024.
