Club World Cup final 2025: PSG ‘can’t wait’, says Luis Enrique – but Colwill claims Chelsea fear no-one

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has called his players “sensational” before the 2025 Club World Cup final on Sunday (20:00 BST) – but Chelsea defender Levi Colwill says the underdogs are “really confident” and “totally believe in ourselves”.

The Champions League holders secured their third 4-0 win of the tournament by thrashing a feared Real Madrid team in the semi-finals, winning with a clean sheet for the fifth time in the US, having also hammered Atletico Madrid and Inter Miami by the same scoreline.

“It’s been incredible and will go down in the history of Paris Saint-Germain,” Luis Enrique said of winning a quadruple including a first Champions League title.

“We want to make it even bigger by winning on Sunday, but it’s been extraordinary. Winning this competition means a lot, without a doubt. We can’t wait to play.”

Chelsea vs PSG: Club World Cup final ‘tight’

Luis Enrique praised counterpart Enzo Maresca, who is 10 years his junior at 45 and restored the Blues to the Champions League during his first season at Stamford Bridge.

“Chelsea have a young coach who likes to play with the ball,” said the Spaniard. “He’s got a team with a lot of individuality, but when they have to defend, they do it like we do, and they’re very strong physically, too.

“So it’s going to be a tight game on Sunday. It will be difficult because we are similar in most areas of the game. We’re ready, they’re ready.”

Club World Cup final 2025: Chelsea ‘not Madrid’

Defender Levi Colwill, who has started four of Chelsea’s six games at the finals, said their squad watched PSG beat Madrid but called the contest “one game of football”.

“We totally believe in ourselves to get over the line,” added Colwill. “They are an amazing team and were really good in the semi-finals, but Real Madrid are very different to us.

“We are not Inter or Real Madrid. We’re going to bring something different. They don’t press like us or play like us. They can’t expect us to give them the same game.

“You have to respect how they press, how they play, but we’re not going to change our whole way to play them. We’ve got our plan, our identity, which we’re going to stick to through the gaffer. That’s when we play our best football.

“We’ve got this far playing our football, so why would we change that now? We believe in ourselves and we want to try to prove that’s the way to do so.

“I believe in us and we can beat anyone, so we’re going to take that confidence going into the game… we’ll be really confident.”

Like PSG, Chelsea have been perfect with the exception of one defeat at the finals, advancing from the final four with a 2-0 win over Fluminense courtesy of new striker Joao Pedro’s goals in either half against his former club.

“It definitely feels like we are peaking at a good time,” observed Colwill. “In the semi-finals, it was a really strong performance. Hopefully, come the final, it will be even better.

“When you play for Chelsea, you’re not scared to play against anyone. That’s how we all feel.”

Reece James: Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo ‘phenomenal’

Captain Reece James called both teams “amazing” but predicted Chelsea “will surprise a lot of people” in their second final in quick succession following their win over Real Betis in the Conference League in May.

“We have come a long way in our journey from where we started,” reflected the England international. “It’s two great young sides playing against each other on the biggest stage, so I believe we will go toe-to-toe.”

James expects Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo to make it “clear” during the game that they are “up there with the best midfielders in the world”.

“They are two phenomenal players,” he said, calling Fernandez “an amazing player and person”. “He’s come on so much since he arrived at Chelsea, and he’s a huge part of [the] club.”

PSG skipper Marquinhos said winning the expanded competition would make his club’s season “perfect”. “We’re aware of the importance of this match,” added the Brazil centre-back.

“It’s a golden opportunity for us. This competition only comes around every four years and we have the opportunity to win it.

“From day one, the coach has been telling us how important it is, and that there will be players who won’t get the chance to play it again.

“We’ve really enjoyed playing in this competition and we’ve been lucky enough to play against completely different opponents.”
