Xiaomi 16 may come as early as September, gets 6800mAh large battery

Xiaomi may announce its new Xiaomi 16 flagship a month earlier than its predecessor the Xiaomi 15, meaning we can expect it as early as September. And that's not the only thing that stands out about the Xiaomi 16, as the battery capacity will presumably be at 6800mAh.

We are at the dawn of small phones with big batteries. The Xiaomi 16 promises to be one of those. Because this 6.3-inch device will reportedly contain a 6800mAh battery. And we won't even have to wait that long for it.

At least that's what a rumor from China tells us. The Xiaomi 16 is said to feature Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, according to the same source. This chipset has yet to be announced. The first generation Snapdragon 8 Elite was announced as recently as late October so that launch seems to be coming earlier than usual as well then.

We already learned in late April that the successor to the Xiaomi 15 would feature a large battery, but how large was unclear at the time. At least bigger than 6260 mAh we thought at the time, though that was still a modest estimate at the time. By comparison; the more or less equally large Samsung Galaxy S25 has only a 4000 mAh battery.

Battery 2x as big as iPhone

If we make the unfair comparison with Apple, the difference is completely striking. The Xiaomi 16 has almost double the battery size of the iPhone 16. Now iPhones handle hardware very differently so the comparison goes a bit crooked, but the fact is that Apple could double its battery life with a Silicon carbon battery.

The only remaining question is when we will see the Xiaomi 16 in Europe, and in what configuration. We often see Chinese phones with large batteries come out here with a smaller battery. That has to do with European legislation. Moreover, Chinese Xiaomi keeps its flagships to itself for several months after unveiling. So it may take a while.
