Oasis at Heaton Park: Pep Guardiola watches as Liam Gallagher calls Manchester City boss ‘the greatest’

Liam Gallagher swearily defender Pep Guardiola after boos were heard when the Oasis frontman called the Manchester City boss “the greatest manager of all time” while dedicating a song to him at the band’s Manchester comeback gig.
Guardiola posed backstage with the children of Liam Gallagher and songwriter Noel Gallagher at the Heaton Park homecoming on Friday, where the singer introduced 1997 single D’You Know What I Mean? as a tribute to the Champions League and six-time Premier League winner with City, the club the Gallaghers support.
“I want to dedicate this next tune to the greatest manager of all time,” said Gallagher. “The one and only Pep Guardiola. Who’s ******* booing? Who are you ******** booing?”

Pep Guardiola: Oasis family photo at Heaton Park
City’s coach, whose derision may have come from Manchester United fans in the crowd of around 80,000, wore a retro City t-shirt and shorts for a backstage photo with Noel Gallagher’s daughter, Anais, and sons Donovan and Sonny alongside Liam’s sons, Gene and Lennon.
“Pic of the century, alright?” said Gene, sharing the photo on Instagram, where he has more than 274,000 followers. “Now everyone else **** off.”
Footage also showed the Spaniard and daughter Maria enthusiastically singing along to 1996 number one Don’t Look Back in Anger.

Pep Guardiola and Noel Gallagher
Guardiola called Oasis’s reunion for the first time since 2009 “fantastic” and “really good” when it was announced last year.
The Spaniard chatted with Noel Gallagher in his first public intervew at City after joining the club from Bayern Munich in 2016.
A sheepish-looking Guardiola confessed to Gallagher at the time that he liked Coldplay and James Blunt. “It’s not that I don’t like him, el senor,” Gallagher replied, speaking about Blunt. “It’s that I hate him.”
City appointed Guardiola shortly before Coldplay headlined the club’s Etihad Stadium. “I’ve got a friend who’s a ticket tout and can get you two [tickets] for £75,” joked Gallagher in the interview before explaining that Blue Moon is City’s anthem.
Oasis: Manchester City shirt ‘honour’
City released a fourth shirt last September co-designed by Gallagher and inspired by Oasis’s 1994 debut album, Definitely Maybe.
“It’s a proper honour,” Gallagher told City Studios at the time, also assessing the impact of majority owner Sheikh Mansour.
“When the guys from Puma approached us at one of the games, I took about five seconds to agree to it. I’ve been supporting City for 50 years and the last decade this has been stuff that dreams are made of.
“One of the great days of my life was when we were away at Brighton on the last day of the [2018/19] season. We had to win that game.
“We were in the dressing room afterwards with the players and Kevin De Bruyne is handing me a beer. How did it get any better than this?”
