Thomas Frank not concerned despite Tottenham failing to beat two League One teams

Thomas Frank insisted he was happy despite Tottenham failing to beat League One sides in two separate friendlies today.

A Spurs XI featuring the likes of Cristian Romero, Richarlison and Son Heung-min were held to a 2-2 draw by Wycombe in the first game and then another strong side, which contained new signings Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus, drew 0-0 at Luton.

Pape Matar Sarr netted both goals against Wycombe before Tel and Kudus, who cost a combined £85million in this summer’s window, failed to inspire the visitors at Kenilworth Road.

Despite the lack of a victory, Frank was reasonably pleased with the run-outs.

He told Spursplay: “Overall, okay, happy. I would say the big take away on the positive side is that we got more or less 75 minutes into most of the players – that was the reason why we played two mixed teams and subbed on all the youngsters at the end of both games. So, the physical, minute-wise – box ticked. I’m happy with that.”

There were positives – Frank

The Wycombe game was an entertaining affair, played at Hotspur Way. Sarr’s goals came either side of a brace from Armando Quitirna.

“With the Wycombe game, positives, I felt the high pressure and regaining of the ball was very successful in many ways throughout the game,” said the former Brentford boss. “We regained it I don’t know how many times, but we created six, seven very dangerous situations where we should have done even more and scored a good second goal through Pape.

“Also, in the first minutes, Wycombe’s runs in behind were good, so we were really focused on that. The big focus is that we defend well, and we gave away two goals we shouldn’t have given away against Wycombe.”

‘A bit to be worked on’ as Spurs draw a blank at Luton

Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie missed the Luton game, the latter pulling out in the warm-up, as a precaution.

Frank said: “The Luton game, that was the game where I felt, ‘okay, there is a bit to be worked on’. That was two mixed teams a little out of sync. The boys put everything into it, they were positive, heads down working hard, but those connections and relationships, they definitely weren’t fluent, but it’s good to have something to work on.”

Spurs now head to the Far East for friendlies against North London rivals Arsenal on Thursday and Newcastle next Sunday.
