Conor McGregor loses appeal on sexual assault case

Conor McGregor’s attempt to overturn a civil court ruling that found him liable for sexual assault has been unsuccessful.
The former UFC champion, now 37, was ruled liable in November by Ireland’s High Court in relation to an incident that took place in 2018.
The complainant alleged that McGregor assaulted her in a hotel room, and the jury sided with her, awarding damages of €248,000. McGregor appealed the decision earlier this year.
On Thursday, however, the High Court dismissed his appeal in its entirety.
McGregor’s legal team had presented a range of arguments, including testimony from a neighbour of the plaintiff who claimed to have witnessed her in a separate altercation before the alleged assault.
That line of defence was dropped earlier this month.
RTE, Ireland’s national broadcaster, reported that the woman testified she first encountered McGregor at a Christmas party in Dublin in 2018.
She alleged that he pushed her onto a bed, choked her, and left her fearing for her life. McGregor, who has four children with his long-term partner, acknowledged that sexual activity took place but denied it was violent or non-consensual. No criminal charges were filed in connection with the case.
McGregor (22-6) has been absent from mixed martial arts competition since breaking his leg in a TKO defeat to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.
Earlier this month, he revealed that he had undergone drug testing as part of the UFC’s anti-doping program, a step toward a potential return.
He has also suggested that he wants to fight at a proposed UFC event at the White House in 2026.
