Arsenal v Newcastle United team news: Confirmed line-ups as Magpies suffer major blow

Arsenal host Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium in a game between second and third, and the Gunners will have been boosted by the visitors’ team news.

Newcastle are just two points behind Arsenal and have beaten them three times already this season across the league and EFL Cup.

The Magpies would all but seal Champions League qualification with a victory, but they will be without the man who has tormented Arsenal’s defence in their meetings this season.

Arsenal team news

The one change for Arsenal from their 2-2 draw at Liverpool last time out sees Declan Rice return to the midfield following a hip injury.

Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have both shaken off injury concerns and are fit enough to start.

Kai Havertz is back in the matchday squad for the first time since February having made surprisingly quick progress in his recovery from a hamstring problem.

Arsenal: Raya, White, Saliba, Kiwior, Lewis-Skelly, Partey, Rice, Odegaard, Saka, Martinelli, Trossard.

Substitutes: Neto, Calafiori, Tierney, Zinchenko, Jorginho, Henry-Francis, Nwaneri, Sterling, Havertz.

Newcastle team news

Newcastle will be without talisman Alexander Isak owing to a groin injury.

Isak has scored twice already against the Gunners this season, but it will be Callum Wilson who leads the line in the only change from last week’s 2-0 win over Chelsea.

There is better news at the back for Newcastle, with Sven Botman fit enough to start despite suffering a knock to his knee against Chelsea.

His presence allows Newcastle to once again play with three centre-backs, Eddie Howe’s change in system enforced by the continued absence of right-back Kieran Trippier.

Joe Willock is back from a knee problem, but he is only named on the bench. Joelinton remains unavailable with a knee issue of his own.

Newcastle United: Pope, Livramento, Schar, Botman, Burn, Murphy, Tonali, Guimaraes, Barnes, Gordon, Wilson.

Substitutes: Dubravka, Ruddy, Krafth, Lascelles, Longstaff, Miley, Willock, Osula, Neave.
