Middlesbrough appoint Rob Edwards as new boss

Middlesbrough have confirmed the appointment of Rob Edwards as head coach on a three-year deal.
Edwards moves to Teesside to succeed Michael Carrick, who was sacked after Middlesbrough failed to reach the Championship play-offs last season.
The 42-year-old had enjoyed an impressive rise having guided Forest Green Rovers and Luton to promotion but left the Hatters in January with the club on the brink of a second successive relegation.

Boro appointment is a privilege â Edwards
Edwards said: âItâs a real privilege to be given the opportunity to be head coach of this great football club. Itâs something thatâs not lost on me, how big this is, how important this is, and what it means to people. There is an amazing fanbase.
âIt felt instantly that this was right for me and it got me excited. If I was going to come back in, I wanted to come back in at a place where we had a chance, and we have a really good chance here.
âWe have a brilliant owner who historically gives his coaches time, support, and the tools needed to try and be successful. I canât wait to get started now.â
Edwards is renown for a physical, direct approach and it remains to be seen if that sits well with the Riverside faithful.
Edwards was our first choice â Scott
But Boroâs head of football Kieran Scott said the former Blackpool defender was the stand-out candidate.
âRob is someone who Iâve been aware of for a long time and Iâve followed his development as a coach closely,â Scott said.
âHe made history at Forest Green Rovers, and to win promotion to the Premier League with Luton Town was a fantastic achievement.
âWe had an exciting pool of candidates for this role, but we felt that Rob was the stand-out and were very impressed upon meeting him and listening to him talk about his vision for the club.
âWeâre excited that Rob has agreed to join us and are looking forward to the future.â
