Manchester United: Captain Bruno Fernandes offered Al-Hilal ultimatum

Bruno Fernandes has been told by Al-Hilal that he has 72 hours to accept their eye-watering contract offer or miss out on a move to Saudi Arabia.

Manchester United captain Fernandes is a target for the big-spending Pro League club, who have also been linked with moves for Cristiano Ronaldo and Victor Osimhen as they look to replace Neymar ahead of the Club World Cup.

Lucrative deal on offer

Reports have suggested Fernandes has been offered a package worth £200million over three years. That equates roughly to a tax-free wage of £700k a week, plus bonuses.

Fernandes is currently with United on their post-season tour of South East Asia but knows he has to provide a swift answer with Al-Hilal eager to get their transfer business done quickly.

If the Portugal midfielder gives it the green light then Al-Hilal will put an offer to United in the region of £100m.

Fernandes was recently named United’s Player of the Year and has continued to perform to a high level despite the club limping to a 15th-placed finish in the Premier League.

Their failure to claim a place in the Champions League following the 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final means they will suffer a huge financial hit and an offer of that magnitude for a player who is now 30 years of age will be hugely tempting, and would go a long way to funding a much-needed squad overhaul.

Amorim desperate to keep Fernandes

United boss Ruben Amorim has made it clear, however, that he wants to keep the former Sporting CP man at Old Trafford.

Speaking before Sunday’s final-day win over Aston Villa, Amorim told TNT Sports: “It is important for Bruno to see that we are changing a lot of things in our club.

“The behaviour, the everyday organisation, the pace of training. All these things, if he sees that we are doing that across all levels, he will want to stay at this club. He loves this club.

“That is the most important thing, not the Champions League. He wants to win with this club and he trains and behaves at a high level. Everybody here needs to do that – he will be here for that.”

Amorim admitted in his press conference earlier ahead of tomorrow’s game against the ASEAN All-Stars that it could be a quiet summer of incomings due to the club’s well-documented financial woes.
