Frank tight-lipped on Son future as Tottenham jet out for pre-season tour

Thomas Frank was giving nothing away when it comes to captain Heung-Min Son’s future at the club.

The South Korean forward is believed to be considering a move away from North London this summer after leading Spurs to their first major piece of silverware in 17 years.

Saudi Arabian clubs are keen on signing the 33-year-old, but Son is reportedly in advanced talks with Los Angeles FC, and could favour a reunion with former team-mate Hugo Lloris in the MLS.

Any departure for Son will not happen until Spurs have completed their pre-season tour of Asia, which includes blockbuster games against Arsenal, Newcastle and Bayern Munich.

The Premier League side would lose up to 75% of their revenue should Son not feature, meaning his future will be decided in the coming weeks, rather than days.

Spurs’ tour gives Frank the opportunity to dive deeper into analysing his squad ahead of the new campaign.

So far, he has overseen a win over Reading and draws against Wycombe and Luton, but will now really see what level his players are at against better opposition.

And the Dane sat down with Men In Blazers to talk about his first few weeks in the new role, his plans to improve a team that finished 17th in the Premier League last term, as well as Son’s future.

He said: “First and foremost, it’s important to say that Ange and his staff achieved massively by winning the Europa League title, I thought there was a lot of good things that I can use, a foundation, we can build from there.

“What I’d like to add, is probably a bit more balance, and of course, I think if we want to achieve something big, we need to be good in all phases of the game

“I try to look into every single detail that can improve the team, or make the chances of winning bigger.

“Set pieces is one of them, there’s a lot of different set pieces that we can try to improve on, long-throws are one of them, I think long-throws are a good weapon, I don’t think it’s a weapon we necessarily need to use every game, but I like to have it in the toolbox.”

On Son, Frank added: “I see a player that can play a very good role here next season. He’s come in with a very good mindset, trained very hard and very well.”

It is not much of a hint on whether Son will depart, but for now at least, he seems set to continue captaining Spurs while they prepare for another new era.
