Frank confirmed as new Tottenham manager on three-year deal

Thomas Frank has been named as the new Tottenham manager on a deal that runs until 2028, the club has confirmed.

Spurs announced the news on Thursday amid been growing speculation that Frank would succeed Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked last earlier this month despite ending Spurs’ 17-year wait for a major trophy by delivering the Europa League.

Frank joins after spending seven years at Brentford, where he built an impressive reputation as one of the best top-flight head coaches after guiding the Bees to promotion from the Championship in 2021.

The 51-year-old Dane will take charge of Spurs after the club suffered the second worst league record in the club’s history.

They finished in 17th place, just one place above the relegation zone having lost 22 of their 38 matches. They ended the league campaign seven places and 18 points below Brentford.

However, Frank, who is now Tottenham’s fourth permanent manager in four years, will oversee Spurs’ return to the Champions League next term – the prize for claiming the Europa League.

“In Thomas we are appointing one of the most progressive and innovative head coaches within the game,” a Spurs statement read.

“He has a proven track record in player and squad development and we look forward to him leading the team as we prepare for the season ahead.”

Meanwhile, Brentford hailed Frank for “the incredible impact he has had on the club’s history”.

Phil Giles, Bees director of football, said: “From the moment he replaced Dean Smith, he understood what we were trying to build and his wisdom, coaching ability and emotional intelligence have helped transform the club.

“But it’s not just what you see on the pitch. He forged a special connection with our fans, helped develop and improve players, and was instrumental in implementing the culture that has seen Brentford go from strength to strength.

“We will never forget Thomas, but now it is time to thank him and take the next steps in our journey with a new leader who we believe can be just as successful and influential.”
